Palace beat Lyon in final pre
Goals from Jeffrey Schlupp and Odsonne Edouard gave Crystal Palace a 2-0 win over Lyon in their final pre-season game before the 2023-24 Premier League season starts next weekend,
The Eagles went ahead after 14 minutes when Eberechi Eze’s free-kick was met by Jeffrey Schlupp, who had evaded the Lyon defence and headed beyond Anthony Lopes.
Schlupp could have doubled Palace’s advantage in the 31st minute after Nathaniel Clyne burst down the left-hand side and pulled the ball back to the former Leicester City midfielder on the edge of the box. However, Schlupp’s shot went straight at Lopes.
Sam Johnstone pulled off an excellent save early in the second half to keep Palace’s clean sheet intact, denying Rayan Cherki from the edge of the box.
Odsonne Edouard scored the second for the Eagles when Lopes dropped Joachim Andersen’s header from a corner, with the French striker bundling the ball into the net.
Jean-Philippe had an opportunity to add a third for the South Londoners in the 87th minute after breaking into the penalty area and one-on-one with Remy Riou. However, the French striker was unable to find a way beyond the substitute keeper.
Palace kick off their Premier League campaign next weekend at newly-promoted Sheffield United.
